NEW YORK -- A's left fielder Yoenis Cespedes will bat third in tonight's eight-man Home Run Derby at Citi Field.
Cespedes, who has 15 home runs and was a "wild card" add to the American League side chosen by the New York Yankees' Robinson Cano, will follow Detroit's Prince Fielder, the defending champ who has gone deep 16 times thus far this season, and Colorado's Michael Cuddyer (16 homers).
Pittsburgh's Pedro Alvarez, who has 24 homers and is an injury replacement for Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez, is fourth, followed by Baltimore's Chris Davis (MLB-leading 37 homers), Washington's Bryce Harper (13), Cano (21) and the New York Mets' David Wright (13).
Each participant hits until he gets 10 outs, or 10 swings that do not end with a home run. The top four homer hitters in the first round advance to the second round with the top two from that round facing off in the finals.
