The A's optioned right-hander Dan Straily to triple-A Sacramento, the club announced following Sunday's 6-3, 10-inning loss in Seattle.

Straily, who was called up from the River Cats most recently on May 1, is 4-2 with a 5.00 ERA in 12 starts for Oakland and has a career-best three-game winning streak over seven starts, and his 53 strikeouts rank second among American League rookies, as do his four victories. His 66 2/3 innings pitched and 12 starts rank third among A.L. rookies.

Still, Straily has gone just 4 2/3 and 3 1/3 innings in his last two starts, respectively, allowing a combined eight runs in those eight innings, including two runs on six hits Saturday night at Seattle.

With three off days in the next eight days -- Monday, Thursday and July 1 -- the A's can afford to skip the right-hander's turn in the rotation.

A fifth starter is not needed until July 5.

Per reports out of Seattle, the A's will not announce a corresponding move until Monday or just before Tuesday's interleague series opener against Cincinnati at the O.co Coliseum.
