CSNCalifornia.comALAMEDA -- The Raiders released running back Michael Bennett on Monday and re-signed safety Matt Giordano to bolster the secondary.Raiders coach Hue Jackson called it, "a decision that needed to be made. I feel very good about it, and we move on from there."Bennett was a somewhat surprising inclusion on the team's initial 53-man roster, given that it gave the Raiders six running backs. Bennett had 20 carries for 66 yards this preseason.RELATED: Raiders announce reductions to get to 53
Giordano, meanwhile, was among the vested veterans terminated on Saturday after being credited with three tackles in exhibition games. He was brought back to give depth to the secondary as well as on special teams."He'll compete (and) he's tough," Jackson said of Giordano. "He's played the game at a very high level. He's played on some very good, quality teams. He's a great worker, has good range. He plays safety and can fill in on special teams, so he has some value."
