ALAMEDA -- The Raiders chose running back Latavius Murray with the No. 181 overall pick in the sixth round of the NFL draft on Saturday.
Here's a closer look at the selection:
Position: Running back
School: Central Florida
Height/weight: 6 foot 2, 223 pounds
College career: Rushed for 2,424 career yards, with 37 rushing TDs on 453 attempts. Also scored 44 career touchdowns. Had only three fumbles in his career. Averaged 100.5 rushing yards per game last season while catching 27 passes for 231 yards and four TDs.
Scouting report: Upright runner who did not lose a fumble in the final 407 carries of his career, so ball security is not an issue for him. Ran a 4.38 40 time at his Pro Day.
How he fits: The Raiders already signed Rashad Jennings to back up Darren McFadden and Murray seems to be more raw than a project. But with McFadden's injury issues and Jennings relatively unproven, Murray is a good body to learn behind McFadden. His ability to hold onto the ball is a plus as well.
In his words: "With me and my size, you may look at a guy like LeGarrette Blount, who is as tall as me. Just try to mimic guys like Adrian Peterson and Arian Foster, some bigger backs."
