Well, this just got a lot more awkward.

In the wake of A's manager saying Adam Rosales "may be our best defender at short(stop) in the organization" when he was nonetheless designated for assignment on Wednesday, Texas claimed the infielder off waivers.

The Rangers, who trail the A's by 3 1/2 games in the American League West, are in Oakland for a three-game series beginning Friday night. It is not known yet, though, if the Rangers will have Rosales on their big league roster this weekend at the O.co Coliseum.

Still, it is a shot across the bow of the U.S.S. Oakland Athletic.

Rosales was DFA'd to make room on Oakland's 25-man roster for infielder Alberto Callaspo, acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Angels Tuesday night for minor league infielder Grant Green, the No. 13 overall pick of the 2009 first-year player draft.

An organizational and fan favorite for his hustle, Rosales also frustrated with a lack of consistent production. He batted .193 with four home runs and eight RBI in 50 games over two stints with the A's this season as he earlier cleared waivers and returned to the organization when he was DFA'd on July 8.

This time, though, the Rangers sent a clear message by claiming Rosales.
