CSNCalifornia.comALAMEDA -- Linebacker Tully Banta-Cain was in the Raiders' house Thursday but left without signing a contract.Defensive tackle Richard Seymour, a teammate of Banta-Cain's in New England from 2003 through 2006 and then again in the 2009 preseason, recalled the type of player he was.
"I remember he was extremely fast off the edge," Seymour said of Banta-Cain. "He's a pass-rushing guy."Seymour then chuckled."He doesn't want to be in coverage," Seymour added. "I know he was a good rusher and I hadn't seen him in a while. But that was three years ago, so, who knows."Seymour said he did not see Banta-Cain at the Raiders' compound but did talk with him.Asked what he might bring to the Raiders, Seymour shrugged."I have no idea at this point," he said. "I hadn't seen him. But like I said, I just thought he was quick off the edge and a smart football player."Said coach Hue Jackson: "As I told you, we will always keep looking, searching, trying, whatever that is," said coach Hue Jackson. "Yeah, we did take a look at him but, obviously, there's no decisions made. We'll continue to look at players. Anyone who we think can help us, we'll continue to take a peek at him."Team captains chosen: The Raiders voted on team captains and the five are Seymour, quarterback Jason Campbell, running backs Darren McFadden and Rock Cartwright and punter Shane Lechler."They are guys who exemplify exactly what a Raider is and what a Raider should be," Jackson said. "Like I told them, I kind of pass the baton toy them. This is their football team. I just get to be the conductor. They got to go lead this team to where we want to take this football team and this organization."Beware the injury report: Jackson abhors sharing injury information but with the regular season about to kickoff, the rookie coach has to submit an injury report and practice participation chart. Enjoy."(Derek) Hagan, he's full," Jackson said. "Is that how I do this? Good. He's full, ready to go. Not full of (mess). He's ready to go. (Louis) Murphy did not participate. (Chaz) Schilens, limited. Taiwan Jones, limited. (Kevin) Boss, DNP, did not participate, correct? You guys want to teach me this. (Darryl) Blackstock, full. (Richard) Seymour, full. (Chris) Johnson, full. (Mike) Mitchell, DNP. (DeMarcus) Van Dyke, full."Asked if he had to divulge parts of the body injured, Jackson blanched."No, I don't do body parts," he said. "You know me better than that. I keep the body parts to myself."An educated guess, then, at said injured body parts: Hagan (leg), Murphy (sports hernia), Schilens (knee), Jones (hamstring), Boss (knee), Blackstock (stinger), Seymour (hamstring), Johnson (knee), Mitchell (knee), Van Dyke (leg).Boss might not have been on the field at the start of practice, but he was at the facility as he was seen leaving.
