SAN JOSESharks defenseman Dan Boyles early struggles make a whole lot more sense now.

Boyle mentioned after last Tuesdays game against Colorado that this season has been the toughest I've ever had, physically," without getting into specifics. He revealed much more to Sharks radio host Jamie Baker following the 3-2 win over Edmonton at HP Pavilion on Saturday night.

I dont want to make it sound like an excuse, but injuries have been a factor. I had a broken foot there for a while, and it really hurt my skating. Just being healthy for me has been a big difference the last five or six games or so.

REWIND: An inch makes all the difference for Boyle

Obviously, a broken foot would hinder one of Boyles biggest strengthshis foot speed.

Thats been the thing. I think my skating has always been my strong suit. For the first 15 or 20 games or so I was a step behind, and I was creating a lot of problems out there, he told Baker.

Now, Boyle appears to be rounding into form, and it's showing up not just defensively, but on the scoresheet. Boyle has a goal and three assists in his last four games.

He also wanted to make one thing cleartheres lots of hockey left in his 35-year-old body.

As the oldest guy, people were saying hes done. Ive got plenty in the tank.
