Clowe suffers facial injury

WINNIPEGSharks forward Ryane Clowe will wear a full cage for the next week after suffering a facial injury in the second period of Minnesotas 5-4 shootout win over the Sharks on Tuesday.

Clowe went face-first into the boards and was seen bleeding on the bench. After not skating on Wednesday, he emerged from the locker room on Thursday morning at Winnipeg's MTS Centre with the new fashion accessory attached to his helmet.

Although he wouldnt specify the exact injury, when asked if anything was broken, Clowe replied: Yeah, its not good. Im able to play if I keep the cage on, so its better than the alternative of not playing. It wasnt too bad out there.

One of the Sharks more physical players, and a guy with four fighting majors this season, Clowe may have to alter his approach a bit as he certainly cant drop the gloves and risk further damage.

Thats not what seemed to bother him, though.

Its a little harder to chirp guys when youve got a cage on, Ive got to be honest, Clowe said, with a smirk. Ill probably be a little bit quieter than I usually am, I guess. Not at my teammates, just maybe at the other guys.

Todd McLellan didnt seem too concerned on Thursday morning.

I dont think it will change one bit. Hes big, hes physical, hes got to use his body to protect pucks, and with the facial injury, he has hes got to protect that for a little while. I dont expect him to change his game one bit.
