Havlat out through Christmas

SAN JOSEAnother day, another vague injury update from the Sharks regarding winger Marty Havlat.

Sharks coach Todd McLellan announced on Monday that Havlat would be out for at least Wednesday's home game against Tampa Bay. On Tuesday, he updated that to include Friday's game against the Kings, as well.

He wont play before Christmas, and will be evaluated a little bit more over the next few days, but its probably going to be a little bit more longer term than what we originally thought. Were not ready to put a timeline on it yet, but he wont play before Christmas.

Will Havlat need surgery?

At this point, not that I know of.

Havlat injured his left leg coming over the boards midway through the third period of Saturdays 3-2 win over Edmonton. He scored earlier in the game, after a two-assist effort against Colorado last Thursday.

It was a freak accident. It happens to every team at some point and theres nothing we can do about it now, said McLellan. Weve got to get him healthy and get him back to the way he was playing the last two or three games.

The Sharks host the Anaheim Ducks on Dec. 26.
