PROGRAMMING NOTE: The Sharks and Red Wings drop the puck at 9:30 a.m. Sunday on NBC Sports' Hockey Day In America.

DETROIT -- Sharks defenseman Douglas Murray, who took a puck to the throat Thursday against Tampa, is out for Sunday's game with the Red Wings.

After leaving the game with the Lightning 3:51 into the first period, Murray did not play in Friday's loss to Carolina. He spent a night in the hospital for observation, then flew directly to Detroit. TheSharks face the Western Conference leaders on Sunday.

On the positive side of the injury ledger, defenseman Jason Demers is probable. Sidelined with an unspecified lower body injury, he has not played since Jan. 24 in Calgary.

Earlier this week Demers was optimistic about his return.

I think they probably want me to practice a little more and get more into game shape," he said. "Im going to start skating with the team every day now and doing stuff extra afterwards just to get back into game shape. Ill pretty much play the waiting game after that.
