The Sharks have expressed interest in veteran and current Phoenix Coyotes forward Ray Whitney, according to TSNs Pierre Lebrun.
Whitney, 39, leads the Coyotes in scoring with 49 points (16g, 33a) and is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
According to Lebrun, Whitney has a limited no-trade clause in which he would name eight teams that hed be willing to play for. That conversation has not happened yet, though.

The Boston Bruins and New York Rangers are also believed to be interested in Whitney, who began his NHL career in San Jose and spent parts of six seasons with the Sharks from 1991-92 to 1996-97. He was drafted by San Jose in the second round of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft.
In 1,201 career NHL games, Whitney has 357 goals and 618 assists for 975 points.
The Sharks are believed to be in the market for a forward, as Marty Havlat remains out with a partially torn hamstring. Havlat was said to begin skating in the "near future," according to general manager Doug Wilson, but he will not accompany the team on its nine-game, 15-day road trip that begins on Sunday in St. Louis.
The NHL trade deadline is on Feb. 27.
