The Sharks activated defenseman Jim Vandermeer Saturday, replacing him on injured reserve with center Tommy Wingels.

The nine-year veteran Vandermeer has three points, all assists, in 10 games with the Sharks this year, his first with San Jose. The physical blue-liner missed 20 games with a left hand injury.

Less is known about the injury to Wingels, who collided with Joe Pavelski at 15:35 in the third period of the Sharks' 4-1 loss to the Senators Thursday. It is being called an upper body and the collision suggests it is focused on his left side.

In other roster news, left wing Frazer McLaren cleared waivers and has been assigned to the Worcester Sharks.

Yesterday, the team recalled left wing John McCarthy from their AHL affiliate.

McCarthy leads the Worcester Sharks with 27 points(11 G, 16 A) in 37 AHL games.
