Warriors assign Wright to D-League

Chris Wright, who made Golden State's 2011-12 roster despite being undrafted last year, was assigned by the Warriors to the Dakota Wizards of the NBA Development League, the team announced Thursday.

Although his minutes have been limited, the Warriors have been impressed with Wright's work ethic and athleticism. The goal is to get the former University of Dayton star and All-Atlantic 10 first-teamer some playing time at small forward. He has only appeared in five games this year.

Wright signed a non-guaranteed contract for the rookie minimum of 473,604. He survived three rounds of cuts to make Golden State's regular-season roster. Wright, 23, was averaging 1.0 point in 3.2 minutes per contest. He was originally signed as a free agent on Dec. 12, 2011.

Wright is the first former Dayton player to suit up for an NBA team since Negele Knight, who was drafted in 1990 and played for five teams over six seasons, finishing with the Toronto Raptors in 1998-99.
