What to do with Stephen Curry's ankle?

Editor's Note: According to a report published in USA Today, Warriors point guard Stephen Curry will miss Wednesdays game against the New York Knicks in order to rest his troublesome right ankle. More details to follow after today's practice.

First of all, its not my right ankle so I dont really haveany idea how Stephen Currys feels. But its a pretty important subject as itpertains to the Warriors, and so its worth addressing.Basically, there are two schools of thought on what is nowofficially a troublesome right ankle for Curry. One is for Curry to continueplaying, continue getting treatment and playing on.The other one is for Curry to take some time off -- miss somegames -- and get the ankle totally right before returning. The Warriors willlikely pay the price in the short run -- having less of a chance to win againstNew York, Philly and then on the road at Phoenix, San Antonio and L.A.
But some would argue thats a small price to pay to makesure Currys injury full heals. Plus, maybe he doesnt have to miss all five ofthose games anyway.Got to tell you, Im all for getting Currys ankle to 100percent, but is that practical and realistic? And who says the ankle isnt 100percent right now?First and foremost, this is Currys decision. But Im not convinced that if Curry rests that ankle for aweek to 10 days, hell be any less likely to reinjure it in his first game backthan he is if he plays Wednesdays game against New York.Curry tweaked the ankle three or four times last year, andhe missed eight games. He had surgery to strengthen the ankle in May, but hereinjured it in preseason game No. 2 -- last Tuesday. In other words, after a surgery, an extensive rehab and afull recovery, Curry hurt the ankle two games in. Perhaps the reality is thisis simply the way Currys ankle is going to be.Sure its problematic, but its also nice to know thesetweaks dont linger and he bounces back quickly. He didnt practice between that game and the regular-seasonopener on Sunday but ended up playing and playing poorly, turning the ball overfive times and shooting 2-for-12 from the floor in 33 minutes. His opposite number, Chris Paul, took over the game in thefinal six minutes and led the Clippers to a 105-86 win. Curry was a completelydifferent player on Monday, scoring 21 points and handing out 10 assists in 37minutes against Derrick Rose and the Bulls _ a 99-91 win.But Curry reinjured the ankle again in the game, this timewhen he came down on the foot of Kyle Korver after failing to convert intransition.Currys ankle is becoming a day-in and day-out issue for theWarriors, and the idea of shutting him down for a while isnt a crazy one. Only problem is, theres no assurancethat will do any good.
