The Warriors have lost out on Tyson Chandler. Thatsofficial. But New Orleans Chris Paul is back in play, and that means theWarriors have another crack at him.And they intend to take it.According to two sources with knowledge of the Warriors thinking, they will once again revisit trying to trade for Paul and also will go hardafter center DeAndre Jordan, a restricted free agent. The Warriors were in the mix for Paul before he was dealt tothe L.A. Lakers as part of a three-team trade with Houston. But commissionerDavid Stern nullified the deal and as of now Paul remains a Hornet.RELATED: 5 questions heading into Warriors' camp
But for how much longer? The Warriors lost out on Paul thefirst time in large part because they were unwilling to part with StephenCurry. The trade do-over now allows the Warriors to reconsider parting with him.The danger remains, of course, that Paul will walk away fromthe Warriors at seasons end to become a free agent. Under that scenario theWarriors would be left with neither Paul nor Curry. As for Jordan, the Warriors are prepared to make their moveon him. Jordan is young (23) and largely unproven, but hes a big, can blockshots and has impressive athletic ability.Jordan is also a restricted free agent, which means theClippers would have three days to match any offer Golden State were to make. Itis unknown at what number the Clippers would decline to match, but theyvealready spent 24 million over three years on Caron Butler.According to several reports, Jordan has an offer on thetable from the Clippers for five years, 40 million.Thats 8 million per year, which you figure the Warriorswould have to exceed in order to get Jordan. But thats a lot of money for aplayer whowhile being impressive at timesis not yet a consistentplayer. In other words, 8-plus million a year is a lot for someonewhom you might not be able to count on game in and game out.Acquiring Jordan would be even more risky if the Warriorshave to use their amnesty provision on Andris Biedrins to do it. That wouldleave Jordan as the Warriors only true center.
