The first ever game at Levi's Stadium has been announced -- and it's not what you think it is.

The San Jose Earthquakes will christen the new home of the San Francisco 49ers on Aug. 2, 2014, when they'll play host to the Seattle Sounders. The team made the announcement Thursday morning in conjunction with the Santa Clara Stadium Authority and the support of the San Francisco 49ers.

“We are proud to open Levi’s Stadium against Sounders FC,” said Earthquakes President David Kaval. “Santa Clara and the 49ers are great partners and they are constructing a world-class venue that all the Bay Area can be proud of. We have seen great crowds around MLS over the past five years, especially in Seattle, but we are confident that this match will once again demonstrate that the Bay Area has the most passionate soccer fans in the country.”

“The sport of soccer has experienced tremendous growth and support in the United States in recent years, and Levi’s Stadium looks forward to hosting many more world-class matches in years to come,” said Paraag Marathe, COO of the 49ers who booked the event on behalf of the Stadium Authority.

Designed specifically to host a variety of sporting events, Levi's Stadium will seat 68,500 and features a green roof, stadium-wide WiFi capability and 13,000 square feet of HD video boards.

No date has been set for general admission tickets, but tickets will be made available to Earthquakes season ticket holders and Levi's Stadium SBL holders.
