Raiders practice kicked off Friday morning with a light media presence under gray skies in Alameda. It's getaway day to Denver for many of the folks who cover the team, so only four or five members of the press attended the beginning of today's morning session. The open-to-the-media portion of practice featured the offense and defense on opposite sides of the field, stretching to some beats provided by three giant midfield speakers. Each unit was dispatched to their opposite sides after a horn sounded and a digital clock, located at the southeast end of the field, counted down to 0:00.Head coach Dennis Allen supervised the stretching at midfield, then headed over to the defensive side of the field when drills began. Offensive coordinator Greg Knapp supervised the offense, and could be easily heard yelling directions to his players. Wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey is still recovering from the brutal knock-out hit administered by Steelers' safety Ryan Mundy last weekend. He was back at practice today, but not participating. DHB suffered a concussion and a neck strain against Pittsburgh and spent the night at Eden Medical Center on Sunday night. He was released on Monday.

Until now, DHB hadn't been seen at practice, but he's here today, dressed in his black No. 85 -- sans helmet and presumably, cleats. The fourth-year receiver looked on, hands in pockets from midfield as Carson Palmer led the offense's drills.
There was no sign of CB Shawntae Spencer, who's recovering from a right foot injury.
