Jones sees zone-blocking scheme as a natural fit

NAPA -- A wide smile crossed second-year running back Taiwan Jones' face when the question was asked. How suited are you for the one-cut, zone-blocking scheme being implemented, and can you break some long runs with it?"Yeah, most definitely," Jones said. "I think that's a big part of my game is the one cut and go. Everybody knows that I'm a speed guy and I'm able to stop on the go and change direction, so I think this plays well for me."Confidence is not an issue, even as health was last season. He missed the last six games with a hamstring injury. But with Michael Bush moving on to Chicago, Jones and Mike Goodson will compete for carries behind Darren McFadden."Just from hearing (Coach) Dennis Allen talk, he wants to run the ball," Jones said. "And the offense that we've got installed, they've got a lot of run game so I believe there will be more than one running back getting touches."Jones rushed for 73 yards on 16 carries last year and caught two passes for 25 yards while returning eight kickoffs for 165 yards. This offseason, Jones worked with personal trainer Terrell Gaines in Los Angeles. Now, he has a clue what to expect as a second-year player."Its a little easier because you know what to prepare for," Jones said. "Last year, with the lockout I didnt know what I was getting into. This year, I have an idea so I was able to prepare my body as far as conditioning and strengthening, to be ready for it."You've got to know to listen to your body and also eating right and stretching and taking care of yourself, as far as massages and doing ice baths and things like that."
