Raiders add three to roster, waive three

The Raiders made three additions to their roster Saturday,claiming defensive back Phillip Adams, linebacker Keenan Clayton and offensive tackleWillie Smith off of waivers.To make room for the additions, Oakland waived cornerbacks Chimdi Chekwa andBryan McCann and injured defensive tackle Jamie Cumbie.Adams, a seventh-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers inthe 2010 NFL Draft, played one year with the 49ers before splitting the 2011season between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks. He appearedin six games last season, making one interception and seven tackles.Clayton has spent his entire two-year career with thePhiladelphia Eagles, making 18 tackles in 21 games, including one start in2010.Smith started three games and appeared in four for theWashington Redskins last season after signing with them as an undrafted freeagent. Smith played left tackle to the Redskins after Trent Williams wassuspended. He took snaps at right tackle during preseason with the Redskinsbut was waived Friday.Chekwa appeared in four games for the Raiders last year,including one start, and made six tackles. McCann appeared in seven games for Oakland in 2011,returning three punts with an average of 9.7 yards per return. He also averaged27.8 yards per kick return on 13 kickoffs for the Raiders. Cumbie made sixtackles during the 2012 preseason and had three pass deflections and a sackagainst the Detroit Lions on Aug. 25.
