ALAMEDA -- With Denarius Moore resign his strained hamstring Wednesday, undrafted rookie receiver Rod Streater took his place in the first-team offense.Coach Dennis Allen said the Raiders were interested in Streater during the "draft process" after his college career at Temple."I think hes earned the right to get the reps," Allen said. "Hes done a nice job. Hes a young guy. Hes continuing to improve but hes obviously caught our eye enough to think hes earned the right to get a couple of first-team reps."Allen was asked if it was Streater's hands or speed that's caught his attention."Its a little bit of both," Allen said. "Hes caught the ball extremely well. Hes run very good routes. He knows how to get open. Hes been explosive as a receiver. Again, hes still a young guy, hes still learning, hes still making those rookie mistakes, but from an athletic standpoint, from a skill set standpoint, hes really impressive."In two seasons at run-heavy Temple, Streater caught 49 passes for 882 yards and seven touchdowns. He has run a 4.46-second 40-yard time."Im just trying to work hard," Streater said. "I think Ive been doing pretty good running the routes, learning the playbook and everything. Its just me getting out there every day trying to get better and improve, just trying to get better at the plays and everything."Streater said he had no idea the Raiders were interested in him before he signed. A bigger surprise, though, was going from undrafted free agent to running with the first-team offense on the second day of mandatory minicamp."But thats what you have to prepare for," he said. "Just continue to work hard and whenever your shot comes up youve just got to perform."Im a hard worker. I work hard off and on the field. I feel like Im very smart, I can learn the plays and wherever they need me at, I think I can play that position."Moore, it should be noted, should be fine come training camp in Napa on July 30, Allen said.Allen, on the vibe of the second practice: "I thought our mindset was right today. I thought our execution was good. Our guys were flying around. I thought we made some good plays on defense. I thought we made some good plays on offense, so when its balanced like that you feel good coming off the field."Jacoby Ford, Brandon Underwood and Chaz Powell took reps at fielding kickoffs.Seven players did not take part in practice due to injury -- receiver Moore (hamstring), center Stefen Wisniewski (shoulder), linebacker Aaron Curry (sore knees), defensive end Dave Tollefson (calf), fullback Manase Tonga (knee), safety Mike Mitchell (knee) and nose tackle Travis Ivey (concussion).Ivey was concussed in a weight-lifting accident as he was hit in the head by the bar, Allen said.Receiver Eddie McGee also walked off the field with a trainer after a nasty spill attempting to catch a pass. With Curry an observer, rookie Miles Burris was with the first-team defense at weakside linebacker.
