ALAMEDA -- The Raiders worked out four players on Tuesday -- four cornerbacks, an offensive tackle and a defensive end -- and signed none of them.Instead, general manager Reggie McKenzie went to a familiar haunt, so to speak, and signed cornerback Brandian Ross off the Green Bay Packers' practice squad, the Raiders announced Wednesday morning."Tomorrow a new journey begins," Ross Tweeted Tuesday night.Room on the Raiders' 53-man roster was created Tuesday with the waiving of long snapper Nick Guess. Also, the Raiders added two players to the practice squad in signing defensive back Akwasi Owusu-Ansah and re-signing defensive tackle Vaughn Meatoga. Two practice squad spots opened up last week with the "promotions" of Guess and cornerback Coye Francies.Ross, 22, was on the Packers' 53-man roster to begin this season but was inactive for Green Bay's season opener against the 49ers before being waived on Sept. 10, when linebacker Erik Walden's suspension ended. Ross then re-signed to the Packers' practice squad two days later. The 6-foot-1, 191-pounder initially signed with the Packers as an undrafted free agent from Youngstown State in 2011 and was on the Packers' practice squad the entire season.Owusu-Ansah, 24, appeared in 14 games with Dallas and Jacksonville over the 2010 and 2011 seasons after being a fourth-round pick (No. 126 overall) of the Cowboys in 2010 from Indiana (Pa.). He started two games for the Jaguars last season and has also returned 28 kickoffs in his career for 599 yards, as well as six punts for 47 yards.
