KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Receiver Marlon Moore has earned starting assignments in the 49ers' first two exhibition games.

But he has also earned very little playing time, which can be interpreted as a good sign for the three-year veteran. Moore played the first four snaps in the 49ers' 15-13 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday.

So while receivers A.J. Jenkins and Chad Hall entered the game on the second drive and played 38 snaps apiece, Moore had just four plays to show what he can do. Moore, who spent his first three NFL seasons with the Miami Dolphins, is competing for a role in the 49ers' offense.

"We really wanted to see some players against the Chiefs (first defense)," 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said. "We knew they were going to play their first team the entire half on both sides of the ball and wanted to see some of our players in that environment because that's what it's going to be like on Sundays. So that was part of the thinking."

Running back Jewel Hampton made his 49ers debut after opening last season on the non-football injury list. He played a team-high 52 snaps from scrimmage but managed just 33 yards rushing on 19 attempts.
