KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Rookie wide receiver Quinton Patton used both hands to catch passes and kickoffs during pregame warmups Friday evening prior to the 49ers' exhibition game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Patton has worn a no-contact blue jersey during every 49ers practice of training camp due to an injury to the index finger on his left hand. He has been unable to use both hands to catch passes.

But Patton, a fourth-round draft pick from Louisiana Tech, continued to practice. He ran routes but either tried to catch passes one-handed or not at all.

When asked how Patton's overall grasp of the 49ers offense has come along, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh on Wednesday answered, "That's coming along very good. He's almost been able to, even though he hasn't been cleared to catch balls, he's been improvising and running routes, getting the muscle memory from those routes. At times now, he's catching balls one-handed. But it's been a positive. There hasn't been any negatives to that. He's doing the best he can."

It is not known whether the 49ers plan to play Patton against the Chiefs in Friday night's game. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. (PT).

Players who did not suit up for warmups for the 49ers were:

15-WR Michael Crabtree
29-CB Chris Culliver
38-RB Marcus Lattimore
41-S Bubba Ventrone
52-LB Patrick Willis
64-T Luke Marquardt
71-DT Quinton Dial
82-WR Mario Manningham
89-TE Vance McDonald
95-DT Tank Carradine
