SANTA CLARA -- Receiver Michael Crabtree will miss practice again on Sunday afternoon, 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh said.General manager Trent Baalke said Crabtree's injury is not a long-term concern to the 49ers."Like any injury, you never know how long it's going to take these guys to come back," Baalke said Sunday. "But he's working hard at it. The prognosis looks good."Crabtree was seen hobbling after a play during the 49ers' first practice of training camp on Friday. He appeared to favor his right foot or ankle. Crabtree did not practice on Saturday. The injury is especially relevant because Crabtree has experienced problems with his other foot in the past, including last summer when he missed training camp after undergoing surgery to repair a fracture. Crabtree has never participated in an exhibition game in his three previous NFL seasons.
When asked if there was more of a concern because of Crabtree's history of foot injuries, Baalke answered, ""Absolutely, not. Absolutely, not."Safety Dashon Goldson reported to training camp on time after he and the 49ers failed to reach a multi-year extension before the July 16 deadline. Goldson indicated that the 49ers did not make him a formal offer.Baalke declined to address the subject."All the things between the players from a contract standpoint, it's like anything," Baalke said. "That's between the player and management. It makes no sense to get into it in a public forum.""I will say this: Him being here really makes a statement to this football team. It's a statement that not many -- a lot of times, for whatever reasons -- players don't make. We're glad he made the decision he made. And more importantly, his teammates are glad that he made the decision he made. "There are no distractions. We can just go to work. And we'll continue to visit with him and work on a long-term situation. But at this time, it is what it is, and we're certainly glad that he's here."The 49ers were heavily involved with free-agent offensive lineman Leonard Davis since the combine in February, Baalke said. The 49ers added the three-time Pro Bowl player on the eve of training camp."We've been following Leonard for quite some time, since the combine and watching his progress, working his way back into playing shape and got the medical clearance," Baalke said. "This isn't something we just decided on the other day. It's something we've been looking at and working with his agent with since the combine."Davis underwent offseason surgery to repair a foot injury. When he entered the NFL in 2001 as the No. 2 overall pick of the Arizona Cardinals, he weighed 370 pounds. He reported to the 49ers at a svelte 355 pounds.Davis is expected to compete against Alex Boone for the starting job at right guard.
