49ers re-sign Masifilo, waive Beeler for exhibition finale

On the eve of their final exhibition game, the 49ers signed a former Stanford player at the expense of another.The 49ers on Wednesday re-signed undrafted rookie defensive lineman Matthew Masifilo and waived center Chase Beeler, who spent last season on the 49ers' practice squad.The 49ers were short on defensive linemen with starters Justin Smith, Ray McDonald and Isaac Sopoaga expected to see little playing time, or any at all, in the game Thursday against the San Diego Chargers. Also, Demarcus Dobbs is out with a left lower leg injury. (Dobbs has changed his number to No. 83.)
Meanwhile, the 49ers have just two centers on the team: starter Jonathan Goodwin and backup Daniel Kilgore. On Monday, the 49ers waived sixth-round draft pick Jason Slowey.The 49ers' roster currently stands at 75. All teams must trim to 53 players by Friday at 6 p.m..
