Coach Jim Harbaugh and general manager Trent Baalke entrusted their top assistants with their duties this week during the 49ers' three-day rookie minicamp in Santa Clara.Harbaugh left Friday to spend seven days building houses in Peru as part of a group from St. Raymond church in Menlo Park. Brad Seely, assistant head coachspecial teams coordinator, is running the practices this week. And director of player personnel Tom Gamble is evaluating the workouts in place of Baalke, who completed his first marathon Saturday in Duluth, Minn. There is no contact allowed at the practices, which are designed to prepare the rookies for training camp. Rookies are scheduled to report to camp Saturday, July 21, for a couple days of practices and five days of meetings before the veterans are scheduled to report.Linebacker hopeful Brian Banks, whose conviction from a decade earlier on a rape charge was dismissed on May 24, is taking part in a three-day tryout. The 49ers have one open roster spot, but there's no indication whether the club intends to make any immediate move.Because the 49ers have no rookie quarterbacks, the club also invited free agents Tavita Pritchard (Stanford) and Jeff Fleming (Sacramento State) to participate in the minicamp on a tryout basis.Joining the practices for the first time this week is running back LaMichael James, a second-round pick from Oregon. James participated in the post-draft minicamp in early-May, but was ineligible to join the 49ers' offseason program full time until Oregon completed its school year. The practices, many of which have been conducted at walk-through pace, were closed to the media.
