Another San Francisco parade in February?

The question was asked many times Wednesday along Market Street. What are the chances there's another parade for a San Francisco sports championship team, say, in early February? At the mid-point of the NFL's regular-season, the answer is: The 49ers are definitely in the hunt.Coach Jim Harbaugh and 49ers quarterback Alex Smith had roles in the Giants' World Series parade as drivers. Harbaugh drove the car that carried Brandon Belt along the parade route, while Smith acted as Matt Cain's chauffeur."Just want to say to the Giants, 'A job well-done,' " Harbaugh told CSN Bay Area. "And really proud of them. It's awesome to see all the fans out here. Everybody is being just so supportive. It's cool."Harbaugh and Smith were able to participate in the parade because the 49ers are on their bye week. It also gave them a taste of the adulation that could be waiting for them with a Super Bowl title."First, I'm a huge fan of the team, so happy for them (the Giants) for what they did this year," Smith said. "And secondly, the entire Bay Area. What it means to see the whole Bay come together, especially at an event like this. A lot of work ahead of us but, yeah, it makes you want something like this."The 49ers (6-2) own a commanding two-game lead in the NFC West. They are in a battle to be one of the top two seeds in the NFC playoffs.

Currently, two teams have better records: Atlanta (7-0) and Chicago (6-1). The 49ers face the Bears on Monday, Nov. 19, in a game that could have big playoff-seeding implications. The New York Giants are also 6-2, and last year's Super Bowl champs hold the tie-breaker edge over the 49ers based on their 26-3 rout at Candlestick Park three weeks ago.The NFC appears to be a five-team race, as Green Bay (5-3) also figures into the mix. The 49ers have a one-game edge on the Packers, along with the tie-breaker edge. The AFC is not nearly as deep. Houston (6-1) is the class of the conference. Baltimore (5-2) and New England (5-3) are the only other teams more than one game over .500.
