Colts claim Person off waivers

Offensive lineman Mike Person, whom the 49ers selected in the seventh round of the 2011 draft from Montana State, was claimed off waivers Saturday by the Indianapolis Colts.The 49ers expressed a desire to re-sign Person to the practice squad, but he'll be added to the Colts' 53-man roster, agent Cameron Foster told CSNBayArea.com. Person was inactive for each of the 49ers' games last season as a rookie.

The 49ers tried to trade Person on Friday for a seventh-round draft pick, a source said. Failing to find a trade partner, the 49ers eventually placed Person on waivers. Person mostly played left tackle during the exhibition season. He also has experience at guard.Also, the 49ers began adding players to their eight-player practice squad Saturday morning. Linebacker Michael Wilhoite returns, according to agent David Canter, and safety Michael Thomas also will be back on the practice squad, a source told CSNBayArea.com.
Offensive lineman Al Netter has been added to the practice squad, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. Receiver Nathan Palmer also expects to re-sign to the practice squad, according to the Sacramento Bee. Offensive lineman Kenny Wiggins has re-signed with the 49ers' practice squad, he wrote on Twitter.
