Deadline passes with no multi-year deal for Goldson

Pro Bowl safety Dashon Goldson must play this season for the 49ers on a one-year contract after the sides failed to reach an agreement Monday, the deadline for franchise players to sign multi-year deals."There will not be a long-term deal for Dashon," agent Ben Dogra, who represents Goldson, told CSNBayArea.com via text message.Goldson, entering his sixth NFL season, is scheduled to make 6.212 million as the 49ers' franchise player. Goldson earned a combined 4.7 million in his first five NFL seasons.Under terms of the new collective bargaining agreement, franchise players may not have their contracts extended after today at 1 p.m. through the last regular-season game.It will be the second season in a row that Goldson will play on a one-year deal. Last year, he returned to the 49ers after the lockout on a one-year, 2 million contract as an unrestricted free agent.The 49ers also reserve the right to tag Goldson as their franchise player again next season. The team could lock up Goldson for the 2013 season at 7.45 million -- 120 percent of his 2012 salary.With no negotiating power for this season, Goldson has no choice but to return to the 49ers this season. It was not immediately known when Goldson plans to sign his one-year deal.Veterans are scheduled to report to 49ers training camp on Thursday, July 26, with the full-squad practice set for the next day.Goldson, a fourth-round draft pick in 2007, has started all but two games over the past three seasons. During that time, Goldson has recorded 11 interceptions, forced four fumbles and recovered two. He earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl after tying with cornerback Carlos Rogers for the team-lead with six interceptions last season.
