Ginn is listed on the 49ers' depth chart as the team's No. 1 return man for kickoffs and punts. After catching a few practices during individual work, Ginn removed himself from practice, spoke with coach Jim Harbaugh and moved to a side field for more conditioning, the San Jose Mercury News reported.Kyle Williams has averaged 14.0 yards on two punt returns (with three fair catches) in Ginn's absence. Kendall Hunter has averaged 23.2 yards on five kickoff returns with one lost fumble.
Meanwhile, running back Brandon Jacobs was also in uniform on Wednesday, but he was not wearing pads. Jacobs has been sidelined since Aug. 18 with a left knee injury.Jacobs spent the early portion of practice rehabbing on a side field with injured rookies Jewel Hampton (foot) and Darius Fleming (knee). Jacobs, who missed the first two regular-season games, appears doubtful to return to action Sunday against the Vikings.
