Harbaugh: Healthy team means no Jenkins or James

SANTA CLARA -- First-round draft pick A.J. Jenkins suited up for the first game of the regular season. He did not get into the game. And the rookie wide receiver has not been in uniform for any game since.
Running back LaMichael James, chosen in the second round, has not been active for a game all season. It's a unique situation in which an NFL team has not received any contributions from its top draft picks. Instead, Jenkins and James serve their roles on the scout team during practices. When asked how the 49ers' top rookies are performing behind the scenes, coach Jim Harbaugh said, "Good. They've been working hard and doing it with a very good attitude. Just the same thing we tell them, 'Work hard, have a great attitude and you'll get it.'"They'll get their opportunity. So far, with our rookies, they haven't had the opportunity to play in games. But they are practicing and doing very well."Michael Crabtree, Mario Manningham, Randy Moss, Kyle Williams and Ted Ginn are seeing action at wide receiver ahead of Jenkins, the No. 30 overall selection. And Frank Gore, Kendall Hunter and Anthony Dixon are the three running backs who have been active ahead of James and veteran Brandon Jacobs. So what does it say about the 49ers that their top rookies can't even get on the field?"Generally, it says we have 53 healthy guys," Harbaugh said. "You can dress 46 on game day. So I think that's the biggest statement right there."Guard Joe Looney, selected in the fourth round, has also been inactive as the 49ers suit up seven offensive linemen for games. The only draft pick who has seen any action this season is safety Trenton Robinson, who played in the first three games on special teams. But he has not been active for the past five games.Undrafted tight end Garrett Celek has made the biggest impact among members of the team's rookie class. Celek has seen limited action in the past five games with two catches for 10 yards.
