Hunter, Williams sustain injuries

NEW ORLEANS -- The 49ers' victory may have come at a cost, as receiver Kyle Williams and running back Kendall Hunter sustained injuries that could keep both players sidelined for an extended period.Williams sustained a significant left knee injury and was immediately ruled out of the game. A source told CSNBayArea.com that Williams injury is "not good."
Hunter had a left ankle sprain, and was seen on crutches and wearing an orthopedic boot. Williams and Hunter are expected to undergo MRI examinations on Monday.The 49ers have some depth at running back, as veteran Brandon Jacobs saw his first action of the season. He carried once for 1 yard, but he could be counted on as the primary backup to Frank Gore for as long as Hunter is out of action.Hunter is having an exceptional season as Gore's backup. Hunter has 371 yards and two touchdowns on 72 attempts for a 5.2 average.
Williams' knee injury is feared to be more serious. Both players were injured on the same play. Williams was a blocker on Hunter's 2-yard gain late in the third quarter.Williams has been the 49ers' No. 3 receiver. He also took over the return duties Sunday after Ted Ginn's muffed punt. Coach Jim Harbaugh said Ginn was taken out of the game due to a wrist injury.
