Inactives: Tolzien set to back up Kaepernick

SAN FRANCISCO -- Quarterback Alex Smith was officially named among the 49ers' seven inactive players for Monday night's game against the Chicago Bears due to symptoms from a concussion he sustained last week.
Quarterback Colin Kaepernick, a second-year player, will make his first career start in the nationally televised game. Scott Tolzien is active as the 49ers' No. 2 quarterback. Receiver Kyle Williams is the 49ers' emergency No. 3.Smith received most of the 49ers' practice snaps early in the week, a team source told CSNBayArea.com on Monday. As the week progressed, Kaepernick got a greater share of the practice time.Smith practiced four days last week. He was only allowed to practice if he did not exhibit any symptoms from the concussion he sustained last Sunday against the St. Louis Rams.Running backs Brandon Jacobs and LaMichael James were among the 49ers' inactive players, along with first-round draft pick A.J.
