Joe Montana turns 56 — greatest of all-time?

Share

The calendar tells us that Joe Montana celebrates his 56th birthday today but the Hall of Famer seems perpetually in his 20s to longtime 49ers fans, resplendent in his No. 16 jersey, arms above his head signaling another touchdown.

Before we invite the debate and solicit your vote as to who is the Greatest QB of All-Time, we admit our bias in favor of "Joe Cool" and submit a few statistics on his behalf.

In his four Super Bowls (all wins), Montana completed 83 of 122 passes for 1,142 yards and 11 TDS with no interceptions (passer rating: 127.8). He's the only player ever to win three Super Bowl MVP awards and also holds the record for most Super Bowl pass completions (83) and pass attempts (122) without throwing an interception.

Among his many career highlights, "The Catch" (the game-winning TD pass vs. Dallas in the 1981 NFC Championship) and a Super Bowl-winning 92-yard drive vs. the Bengals in Super Bowl XXIII stand as some of the most dramatic moments in NFL history.
