The 49ers will return to London next season to play against the "host" Jacksonville Jaguars in a regular-season game at London's Wembley Stadium, the NFL announced Thursday morning. It will be the second appearance for the 49ers in London in four seasons. On October 31, 2010, the 49ers defeated the Denver Broncos 24-16 in front of 83,941 fans at Wembley. The game in 2013 will take place Sunday, Oct. 27. Kick off is scheduled for 10 a.m. PT (5:00 p.m. in the United Kingdom)."The 49ers are excited and privileged to once again serve as ambassadors for the NFL and the game of football internationally," 49ers CEO Jed York York said. "Our 2010 experience in London was tremendous. The atmosphere at Wembley Stadium on game day was electric. The ability for us to share 49ers football with our faithful fans internationally is a treat for everyone in our organization."It will mark the third time the 49ers have played a regular-season game outside the United States. The 49ers in 2005 played the first regular-season game in Mexico City. The 49ers lost 31-14."Competing on an international stage is a great opportunity for our football team," 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said. "Our coaches, players and staff take great pride in representing the 49ers organization, as well as the National Football League. The support we received from fans in the UK during our 2010 trip was truly special, and the team looks forward to once again playing at Wembley Stadium next October."
The game will be the first in London for the Jaguars, who earlier this year committed to play one regular-season home game in London in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016, all at Wembley."By committing to play a regular-season home game in London in each of the next four years, the Jaguars will play a major role in helping grow our sport in the U.K. and beyond," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement."We think Jaguars-49ers is a matchup our fans will really enjoy and a great way to start a new era in the international development of our game."When the 49ers played in London in 2010, the organization requested a game on the East Coast the previous week to cut down on the travel time. The 49ers played the Carolina Panthers, then traveled straight to London for a week of practice.Among the away games the 49ers have scheduled for next season are at Tampa Bay, New Orleans, Tennessee and an unknown NFC East opponent.49ers' 2013 opponents
