Williams agrees to terms with Redskins

Veteran safety Madieu Williams, who spent last season with the 49ers, agreed to terms Tuesday with the Washington Redskins on Tuesday, a source told CSNBayArea.com.Williams also visited the Atlanta Falcons this week.Williams started three of the 49ers' first four games last season due to injuries to Dashon Goldson and Donte Whitner. Williams was relegated to mostly to special teams play the remainder of the season.Williams, 30, an eight-year veteran, played his first four NFL seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals and the next three with the Minnesota Vikings before signing a one-year deal a year ago with the 49ers.Goldson, Whitner and C.J. Spillman are the only players currently on the 49ers' roster who saw any action last season at safety. Spillman played just 16 snaps of defense, mostly in short-yardage situations.Reggie Smith, who spent his first four seasons as a 49ers reserve, signed with the Carolina Panthers last week.
