Giants right-hander Matt Cain reached his 1,000th career strikeout Thursday against the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Cain entered the day needing five to reach the milestone. It's the latest in a number of milestones for the 26-year-old. He is also the youngest pitcher in Giants history to throw a complete game.

Cain reached the mark in the fifth inning after striking out Koyie Hill on a 92 mph fastball called strike.

He is now fifth all time on the Giants in strikeouts behind Tim Lincecum (1,029), Jason Schimdt (1,065), Gaylord Perry (1,606), and franchise leader Juan Marichal (2,281).
