Angel is better. My hope is he’ll be OK to go (Saturday).
Bruce Bochy

PHOENIX -– Angel Pagan had an epidural to address lower back stiffness and Giants manager Bruce Bochy hopes to have his leadoff man and center fielder back in the lineup on Saturday.

Pagan hasn’t started since last Saturday, when he let Brandon Barnes’ looping line drive get past him for an inside-the-park home run that doomed the Giants in a ninth-inning collapse against the Colorado Rockies.

He took himself out of Sunday’s game less than an hour before the first pitch. Pagan said he injured his back earlier in Saturday's game when he was running from first to third on a base hit.

Pagan left for Arizona while the team was still in Chicago so he could get the injection and give it time to take effect. He took batting practice Friday and is thought to be available off the bench.

“Angel is better,” Bochy said. “My hope is he’ll be OK to go (Saturday).”
