Bochy's MLB All-Stars win Taiwan opener

XINZHUANG, Taiwan (APCSN) -- Curtis Granderson hit a grand slam to lead a team of major league stars to a 7-0 win over Taiwan's national team on Tuesday night.The Yankees slugger went deep off Yao-Hsun Yang in the third inning, electrifying the crowd at the suburban Taipei stadium before the game was called in the sixth inning because of rain.The five-game series between MLB stars including Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano, Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval and Orioles pitcher Jeremy Guthrie resumes on Thursday.Sandoval entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the top of the fifth inning and popped out to centerfield on the first pitch. Andres Torres also got in the game as a pinch runner for Bruce Bochy's squad."They were so into it and excited about the game -- enthusiastic -- and it didn't stop," Bochy said, according to MLB.com's Doug Miller. "That's a tough night, the way it was raining, but they stayed out there. I was impressed. ... We appreciate their passion for the game, and it's neat to see here in Taiwan."The teams will play twice in the central Taiwanese city of Taichung before moving onto the southern city of Kaohsiung for two weekend matchups.
