The Dodgers got some infield insurance Monday, acquiring Gold Glove second baseman Darwin Barney from the Cubs.
Los Angeles, which is in the midst of an NL West battle with the Giants, are finalizing a deal for Barney that will involve a player to be named later a source confirmed.
The Cubs began phasing Barney out months ago, so it couldn’t have been a huge surprise last week when they designated him for assignment.
Barney is currently hitting .230 with two home runs and 16 RBI with just a .265 on-base percentage in 2014.
