Diamondbacks shortstop Stephen Drew fractured his ankle on July 20 of last season, the second season-ending injury to a star player in the N.L. West.
While Buster Posey and the Giants are acting as if the catcher starting on Opening Day is a virtual certainty, Drew and the Diamondbacks aren't as confident.
Stephen Drew met with the media Saturday and said he's 'optimistic' but doesn't know if he'll be ready for Opening Day, according to the Diamonbacks' official Twitter account.
The 29-year-old shortstop was batting .252 with five home runs and 45 RBI in 86 games before injuring his ankle on a slide into home plate.
