After signing a minor league deal with the Royals back in January, veteran reliever Guillermo Motahas retired, reports Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star. Mota wanted to spend more time with his family.

Mota spent three seasons with the Giants (2010-2012), posting a 4.18 ERA in 134 relief appearances. He pitched 2 1/3 scoreless innings against the Texas Rangers during the 2010 World Series, but didn't make an appearance in the 2012 World Series.
