LOS ANGELES -- Ehire Adrianza likely would have gotten another crack at Clayton Kershaw on Friday night. Instead he's starting the healing process.
Adrianza has a fractured left foot after fouling a ball off his leg on Thursday, and he'll miss at least six to eight weeks. The infielder was off to a good start, and he homered off Kershaw last weekend.
"It's disappointing," Adrianza said. "But I have to look forward and see this as motivation to come back and do what I've been doing."

The Giants called up Mac Williamson to take Adrianza's roster spot. Williamson, a powerful outfielder, had a huge spring but the Giants wanted him to go down to Triple-A and play every day. Now in a pinch because of the injury, manager Bruce Bochy said the club wanted a power bat off the bench. Williamson had two homers in his first seven games for the River Cats. He was chosen primarily over Jarrett Parker, who is off to a slower start and battled strikeouts in spring training.
"There were a lot of guys we discussed, but (Williamson) is swinging the bat well down there," Bochy said. "He does give us a threat coming off the bench."

Williamson was on a 5 p.m. flight out of Northern California and was expected to be in Los Angeles in time to possibly pinch-hit later Friday.

Adrianza, a strong defender, put on 14 pounds in the offseason and won a job with a big spring. The injury is a brutal break for a young player who was starting to find his swing two years ago, only to suffer a hamstring injury.
"The kid was doing such a nice job in the early going in his role, swinging the bat well and playing good defense," Bochy said. "He's had some tough luck, but he really was putting it together."
With just one backup infielder now -- Kelby Tomlinson -- the Giants may get creative. Trevor Brown, a converted infielder, will start taking ground balls. Brown has played second and third in the past. Matt Duffy is an emergency option at shortstop, Bochy said.
