Giants Diamond Girls: Haylee Belt

Share

Amy: Thanks for logging on to csnbayarea.com. This is another addition of "Diamond Girls," and with us is Ms. Haylee Belt. Twitter fans have been clamoring for you, my dear, and I know why, because I know you and you're a sweetheart. But clearly Brandon agrees with me, and we always like to hear how lovebirds meet, so what- what's your story with Brandon?

Haylee: Umm...so he moved to my school in the eighth grade. His dad was a teacher at the high school that he went to, so I guess he did kind of move there for sports, 'cause I think he knew he was wanting to be a baseball player for a long time. So, um, we were always friends with the same people. He claims we dated in the eighth grade, I truthfully don't remember. I think I dated all of our friends like a day, a week. And then, like, we had classes together in high school. At the end of tenth grade I was like "Ohh, he's kind of cute."

A: He grew on you.

H: I didn't know he was really that good at baseball. So I started going to baseball games, and then like at the very end of the school year we started dating, and...

A: Didn't look back.

H: (laughs) Yeah.

A: How long have you guys been married?

H: So December 3rd. It'll be two years this December.

A: So you're fairly newlyweds.

H: Yeah.

A: But you've known each other a long time.

H: Oh yeah.

A: So that's sweet when you're friends first. That's the best way to go.

H: I think we were- What is it? Like seven years or six and a half years before we got married.

A: Aww. So tell us a little bit- You were newly married, Brandon gets put on the 25 man roster in 2011, super emotional moment, it was documented on the Showtime show. And then we have the ups and downs that come along with Major League baseball. What was that time like for you, and tell us about moving, because nobody ever really knows about the wife at home packing all the stuff up.

H: I think I could probably drive to Fresno with my eyes closed, and back. It's not that bad. I'm kind of, like, blessed we don't have kids, 'cause I could imagine having to pack me, Brandon, and a baby. I see the other families that have the kids, and they take up more space than anything else, I think. I had my car packed to the roof when we moved. This year I kind of...

A: Gunned it down a little, yeah.

H: But yeah, it was great to have all that on "The Franchise," and we'll get to show our kids. It was a pain every time he would get the phone call or get called in the office that he was going to be sent to Fresno and he would call me. I cried every time. I think he takes it better than I do, but I think I was just more sad for him, because I know he wants to be here so bad. But, yeah, he didn't help me pack because he would have to be-

A: Here comes the truth!

H: Yeah, he would have to be there, you know, the next day. Like, they have to play, he doesn't get time off to pack, to move. So I would pack us all up, drive us. He gets to fly everywhere, I have to drive everywhere. And then unpack.

A: You're doing all the grunt work. Yeah, well I'm sure he appreciates it. Now, I get to interview Brandon often, and he's so funny. He's such a nice person, but he's so- You said goofy. He always uses the word awkward. "Well, I guess I'm awkward." Now, do you think he's awkward?

H: I don't. Like I was saying earlier, maybe back in high school he kind of...was a little weird I guess. Boys go through that weird stage, you know?

A: Boys are just weird.

H: But to me he's not awkward. I think people have just like pounded that in his head.

A: Poor thing.

H: And then sometimes- Yesterday, I was watching the replay of his triple, and they showed, you know, him running around the bases, and I'm like "You do run a little awkward. I can kind of see where the baby giraffe comes from."

A: Oh yeah, baby giraffe's a good one.

H: It's funny though. He takes it good. He plays, you know...He doesn't get his feelings hurt, and so I think-

A: He takes it in stride.

H: Yeah, yeah. So that's good.

A: Yeah, he's mentally tough.

H: Yeah, he really is. I guess you have to be in this game.

A: Important event coming up: The Wives Auction June 9th, and I hear you've been busy making a "favorite things" basket to represent Brandon, as all the wives have been doing. So what is in this basket that people can bid on?

H: Of course it's his favorites basket, so we do like favorite movies, a gift card maybe to his favorite restaurant, favorite book, and of course most importantly people want autographed things, because that's what they're paying for.

A: Sure.

H: So I did Brandon's favorite movie, which is "Tombstone."

A: Nice! That's my husband's favorite movie.

H: Yeah, he loves it. I truthfully had never seen it until we started dating, but it's probably up there in my top two. I did- He loves Olive Garden. There's not many Olive Gardens close to here, but I did a gift card to Olive Garden. I'm trying to think...Oh, his favorite candy, so I have a few different kinds of candy and I think I put like three Cokes in there because he loves Coke. And then of course there's a signed game bat, batting gloves, a baseball and a jersey.

A: Now during the game on June 9th against the Texas Rangers there will be a silent auction right from 11:00 AM all the way to the-

H: Fourth inning.

A: Fourth inning. And then what happens after the game?

H: And then after the game there's gonna be a live auction on top of the dugout, the Giants dugout. I'm not sure...

A: There's some big- Well, J.T. Snow. Watch a game with J.T. Snow, and get a pitching lesson from Matt Cain.

H: And then I also think a batting practice on the field.

A: BP.

H: Yeah. So that'll be really fun. So I hope a lot of people can come out and help support the Giants Community Fund for that.

A: That's awesome. Alright so Wives Auction June 9th against the Rangers. Make sure you come, you'll see Haylee. She'll be working out there, and all of the funds go to the Giants Community Fund and then are distributed to other organizations that need them.
