Amy: Alright everyone. We've got Kate Schierholtz. Thanks so much for logging on to csnbayarea.com for another edition of Diamond Girls, and Kate's a sweetie and has agreed to do this with me. She is of course Nate's wife. You two are newlyweds, so it was a fun off season for you guys. Just take us back a little bit to how you met Nate. It's kind of a cute story.

Kate: Ok, so, a previous Giant Alex Hinshaw, he played baseball at San Diego State and I actually played basketball at San Diego State, and his wife I played basketball with.

A: Courtney.

K: Courtney, yeah. And so they were in San Francisco and were just like "Come meet us for dinner," and they kind of just brought Nate along. It was kind of a group date at first and then-

A: Those are the best kind. Less pressure.

K: Not awkward.

A: And you were here working.

K: Yeah, yeah. After basketball I got a job up in the city, in San Francisco.

A: So you're kind of a stud athlete, huh? You're humble about it but you're a good athlete. So...Nate's an Olympian. I'm sure he throws that around a little bit but when you two- Do you guys ever compete things? Like if you go bowling or, I don't know, do putt-putt golf is it competitively fun?

K: Of course. I mean, you have two athletes together they're always gonna want to win. I think-

A: But you do, huh?

K: I usually win.

A: Good.

K: I don't know, we play all the like Words with Friends and all those games, and I usually beat him in that. He usually beats me in Monopoly or board games so it goes back and forth.

A: He gets greedy. Gets all the hotels.

K: Right. But if it's like a basketball H.O.R.S.E. game...I got it.

A: So you two- You're newlyweds and you don't get a whole lot of time together during the baseball season, so if you get a rare day together do you have any kind of routine? Are you a movie couple or a barbeque couple? What do you guys like to do when you get some time?

K: I think, you know, the season's so long and grueling that any day off he gets we really just want to like not think about baseball and kind of have like a mental break along with a physical break, so...I don't know. He likes to cook out and barbeque and do things like that. Really just low key. I mean, we'll go to Napa if it's a long- If it's a day game then we have like kind of some time to get there, but I don't know. It just depends on the day. I mean they've been traveling a lot these last few off days, but yeah, just keeping it low key and having some fun. Kind of getting your mind off the stress of the game.

A: You're here at the park a lot on a home stand. If he is traveling, are you able to- Do you go on trips with him ever or are you watching from home? How much are you watching the games and involved?

K: Well, yeah. I grew up in a sports family. I played college basketball, my sister played college soccer, my dad played college football, all D1 so it was...We kind of, you know, you just go to games. That's what you do. But for the last two years I've been working pretty much full time. That was hard getting to a lot of the road games but this year I'm working a little less than full time but I get to work from home, so I'm going to be able to work from those hotels. So I'll get to see him a little bit more. That was kind of a big thing this off season that- Trying to get my work schedule where we could actually spend time together.

A: Is your work pretty excited though that Nate's your man? That they've got a San Francisco Giant wife in the office?

K: Yeah, they were. I mean everyone in this whole city is excited about this team, so it's pretty cool.

A: Ok so now you've got to dish a little bit. We need to know what Nate does that bugs you.

K: Umm...

A: That was Shawn Estes that just jumped in, just so everybody knows why we looked away. Thanks Shawn!

K: Um...pet peeves. I mean Nate's kind of quiet. He's not- He doesn't do a lot of annoying things I would say. But he's really particular about his car, so I mean if I put a fingerprint on it he's like getting his little...

A: He's a clean freak.

K: Yeah. A little bit about his car, yes. And then probably the most annoying thing is like being an athlete, you know I'm used to like- I could eat whatever I wanted. Well know I half to like kind of cut back, but he does not. I mean we have this joke, I'm like "You eat cereal every night before you go to bed," and I swear he like gains an ab. Like it's not fair. It like makes me so mad.

A: That's not fair. And it only gets worse as we get older, I swear. Yeah, well, I still play soccer so if your sister wants to come join my indoor team we are always looking for good female athletes.

K: She would be good.

A: Or you. I'm sure you could kick it around a little bit too.

K: I could probably hang.

A: Alright, Kate Schierholtz. She is a sweetie-pie. Thanks for joining us. Go to csnbayarea.com for another edition of Diamond Girls. We'll see you next time.
