Giants extend Sabean, Bochy

The Giants took care of the first order of offseason business Tuesday with the announcement that GM Brian Sabean and manager Bruce Bochy had their contracts extended through 2013.

The Giants hold club options on both for 2014. Terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

Brian and Bruce are the best at their crafts in the gameand theyre track record shows that, team president and incoming CEO Larry Baer said.Sabean is the longest-tenured active GM in Major League Baseball, currently in his 16th year in that position with the Giants. He constructed the 2010 roster that brought the city of San Francisco its first ever World Series title.

"I don't take the extension lightly," Sabean said."Baseball's a tough game. I'm really thankful, the fact that I'm one of theoriginal employees of the ownership group and as the ownership group haschanged they've recognized our dedication and accomplishments."

Bochy, entering his sixth season with the Giants and 18th straight as an MLB manager, is just the sixth manager to take two different National League clubs to the World Series. He is the winningest manager in San Diego Padres history and has a 409-401 (.505) record with San Francisco.

"I'm thankful to the ownership group for their confidence in me," Bochy said. "I don't take anything for granted. I'm just thrilled to be part of the Giants' family and effort to bring another championship here to San Francisco."
