SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Giants minor league infielder Ryan Jones received a 50-game suspension without pay after testing positive for amphetamine, Major League Baseball announced Thursday.

Jones, 23, was a 13th-round pick in the 2012 draft out of Michigan State. He played each of the last two seasons at Salem-Keizer in the short-season Northwest League, hitting a combined .273/.359/.340 with one home run in 341 at-bats. He had been listed on the roster with Low-A Augusta.

Jones' suspension will be effective at the start of Augusta's season. Minor leaguers began reporting to camp on Wednesday and workouts are beginning at the Giants' minor league complex on Friday.
