The Giants have signed 20 of their 40 draft picks from this year's First-Year Player Draft, including first-round draft pick Christian Arroyo, the team announced Tuesday.
Arroyo's numbers at Hernando High School, north of Tampa, were impressive -- .524 average, .554 on-base percentage a 1.019 slugging percentage -- and he was the MVP of the Team USA under-18 team that won a gold medal at the World Championships in South Korea.
Arroyo signed for the slotted sum of $1,866,500, according to Baseball America, which also indicated that third-round draft pick Chase Johnson was signed for $440,000. Last Monday, second-round draft pick Ryder Jones chose to begin his career with the Giants, rather than begin college at Stanford.
In addition to Arroyo, Jones and Johnson, the Giants announced the signings of 1B Brian Ragira, SS Brandon Bednar, LF Tyler Horan, LHP Donald Snelten, RHP Tyler Rogers, CF Johneshwy Fargas, LHP Nick Jones, C Eugene Escalante, C Rene Melendez, SS Brett Kay, RHP Ethan Miller, SS Blake Miller, RHP Jacob McCasland, RHP Dusten Knight, 3B Ryan Tuntland, 1B Craig Massoni, and 2B Will Callaway.
