SAN FRANCISCO – The Giants made a minor change to their roster after a 5-2 victory over the A’s, optioning outfielder Juan Perez to Triple-A Fresno and recalling infielder Ehire Adrianza from his minor league rehab assignment.
Adrianza was 6-for-19 with a home run in six games for Fresno while rehabbing from a mild hamstring injury. Optioning Perez leaves the Giants a little short in the outfield, and basically requires Gregor Blanco to play every inning in center field. Tyler Colvin could play there in a pinch.
With four games remaining before the All-Star break, the Giants must figure they’ll be able to manage for the short term.
The club expects to activate Marco Scutaro from the DL on Friday, which would leave them with a glut of infielders. Joe Panik has a minor league option, but it would appear much more likely that Brandon Hicks’ time with the team is at an end – especially since the club will have to take someone off the 40-man roster to clear space for Scutaro, who had been transferred to the 60-day disabled list.
