Giants left-handed reliever Jeremy Affeldt has been placed on the disabled list after an MRI confirmed a left groin strain that will keep him out for six weeks. The Giants recalled right-hander Jean Machi from Triple-A Fresno in a corresponding roster move.

Affeldt was in obvious pain after throwing a 2-2 pitch to Arizona's A.J. Pollock in the sixth inning Saturday.

Affeldt is 1-4 with a 3.51 ERA and 21 strikeouts compared to 17 walks in 33.1 innings.
